I don’t believe I’ve mentioned anything about Best Kids here on my blog yet, so let’s remedy that! Best Kid’s is a mentoring program designed to match up kids in the D.C. foster care system with caring, consistent, adult mentors. It’s a great organization run by great people who are making a difference in these kid’s lives.
I’ve been doing work for Best Kids for a couple of years now. The majority of work I do for them is video work, which is part of the reason why you don’t normally see me posting stuff about them. Two weekends ago they put on an event for their mentee’s and families at Howard University, and they had me come and cover the event, both pictures and videos. The event featured chef’s from Howard University and Sodexo giving cooking lessons to the kids and lectures on nutrition to the parents. It ended with everyone getting a delicious meal and food and toy donations.
I’m currently working on a video for Best Kid’s that highlights the day, but I thought in the meantime I could finally bring some attention to this great organization and post a few pictures below from the event. The other reason I don’t normally post stuff from work I do for Best Kid’s is because I’m not legally allowed to use pictures that depict the faces of anyone in foster care in any recognizable way. This creates all kinds of challenges covering events for them (especially with recording video…) but the law is the law!
Anyway, a few highlights from the day:
