Do you remember the simple joy’s of hanging upside down from a rope ladder on a fall day? Because sadly, I don’t…but the kid pictured above does!
There’s something about kids where, if the conditions are right, you can capture brilliant moments of pure, unfiltered emotion. In this case it’s pure joy, but it can easily be the opposite extreme. Sometimes you can stage a shot with a kid to get the kind of unfiltered emotion you are looking for. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. In both cases, it doesn’t hurt to have a little luck on your side!
The above picture was shot in November on a Gateway sponsored Mother/Son excursion to a local corn maze. I was taking pictures at this event when I saw this kid on a rope ladder flip over and hang upside down. Seeing this fleeting moment, I lowered my camera almost to the ground under the rope ladder and blindly took a couple shots. By the time I could actually lay down and look through my camera to compose the shot, he had fallen off and the moment was gone. Luckily for me my blind shooting paid off!
Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good!
