When Christelle first approached me about doing portraits for her I didn’t think much of it. She said she wanted some pictures done of her in a fun location after getting dressed up. All of this sounded pretty standard to me, and after showing her some pictures I had done in Old Town Alexandria we agreed on a time and location. It wasn’t until we met up the day of the shoot that I realized just how unique this shoot would be! Not only did she get her hair and makeup professionally done for the day, but she was rocking a dress that she made herself!
Let me just reiterate this because it’s rather unbelievable. When you look at these pictures and the dress she is wearing, Christelle conceptualized then made the dress from scratch. She isn’t a fashion designer or seamstress (although she probably should be), she’s just someone who dreamed something up then did it! I was blown entirely away!
What followed was more of a fashion shoot than anything resembling a portrait shoot. I’ve obviously worked with brides and couples before, and I’ve done a handful of headshots and senior portraits, but this was really something new for me! I enjoy mixing it up and challenging myself with different genres of photography from time to time and this whole experience definitely offered up something new and different!
Personally I think the photos turned out great (of course the subject did make this exceedingly easy) and hopefully you guys feel the same way about them! Take a look and seriously, marvel at that dress!
